How Will Getting Your Novel Published Change Your

Life Right Now?

(Right Now... Even If It's Your First Book)

With the Right Tools, You Could Get There Sooner Than You Think

The publishing industry has several long-held secrets for writing compelling fiction that is #unputdownable. You won't find them in a writing book or at a workshop at a writer's conference. Commercial editors know them, and so do multi-published authors. These are the unspoken tips and tricks that qualify as Insider Secrets for the initiated.

Well, those days are over. Because I'm about to share those Insider Secrets with you.

I learned them as an editor for a publishing company for 12 years. They were on the checklists and style sheets the publisher gave us to bring a manuscript up to speed.

You see, I had something that most editors don't have: I'm also a published author.

Usually, editors don't write and writers don't edit. But I started out as an English teacher who then became published, and then became a commercial editor. That happened because my book Reaping the Whirlwind won the national Christy Award for excellence in fiction. Afterward, my publisher hired me as a substantive and developmental editor. That's when I became an author who had access to the Insider Secrets, and I put them to good use. 22 Years later, I'm now the author and ghostwriter of 43 books with more than 1 Million copies sold.

I created this course to help other dedicated authors like me to discover

  • how to develop characters with depth and complexity that fans love
  • how to write a solid plot that keeps the reader turning pages
  • how to find your hook so your book is easy to market
  • how to shorten the time to finishing a book, so you can keep your fans eagerly awaiting the next one

Yes, you can do that with fiction.

This is your opportunity to find out how to create

raving fans that can't get enough of your work.

The course includes a live writing lab each month where you can get

personalized hands-on help from me, Lana McAra, included at no extra charge.

Here's a short segment from an actual class. This is from Module 4: Character Development about how to create  multi-layered characters.

Who is Your Teacher?

Lana McAra, an award-winning, international best-selling author and ghostwriter of more than 40 titles with more than 1 Million books sold. An author via traditional publishing with Barbour Publishing and WinePress Publishing for 25 years, she has been editing and ghostwriting for more than 20 years, working for WinePress Publishing as well as Author One Stop and individual clients.

She won the national Christy Award for Reaping the Whirlwind in 2001, and her historical cozy mystery series, Colorado, sold more than 250,000 copies. Her titles have appeared around the world in bookstores and libraries in regular print, large print editions and audiobooks. She has been teaching and coaching novel writing for more than 20 years.

Ann Crawford, a student from the last class, has this to say...

Ann landed a publishing contract a few months after finishing "How To Write a Novel That Sells." Here's what she posted on Facebook...

"I just want to add that I’ve been writing for decades and won numerous awards—the whole enchilada—but there are many things the current market and publishers want that I didn’t know about (i.e. very short descriptions, for one thing). Lana’s masterful class quickly got me up to speed. I’m so grateful! ❤️"

"One of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my writing career was to sign up for Rosey Dow’s wonderful fiction writing course (you might know her as Lana McAra). When I first signed up for the course, I only had a draft of a novel I’d written about 20 years earlier and gave up on, and I had nothing published other than magazine articles.

Today, I have 7 published novels (including the one I gave up on) and am working on the 8th, all published by traditional, royalty-paying publishers. I also shared these great writing principles after I became president of the South Carolina Chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers. I highly recommend Lana’s writing course and am so pleased she is going to offer it again."

What You Don't Need

You don't need great English skills.

You don’t need to be excellent at grammar, punctuation and spelling. If you are good at these, that’s a bonus, but you can always get an editor to clean up the text for you. You would be surprised how many best-selling authors don't know a preposition from a gerund. You don't need to know those either to become a success.

You don’t need a lot of story writing experience, or any writing experience, for that matter.

Actually, Lana McAra hated writing in college. When she ventured into her first story writing course--almost by accident--she discovered a whole new world outside of academia. When you're in class, ask her to tell that story. It's very interesting how it all happened.

You don’t need good typing skills or good grades.

Even if you hated school or quit school altogether, you can still write a strong novel. Lana will show you exactly how to do it.

What You Do Need

A passion for telling your story.

The story and the message have to matter to you. You will spend countless hours over many months putting together your novel. No one will be standing over you, urging you forward. You need the internal drive to stick with it.

Motivation to make an effort, make corrections, and try again.

Very few writing geniuses simply sit down and type out an epic novel. The rest of us are typical human beings who learn by making an effort, finding places to make improvements, and going at it again.

Attention to detail.

You will take your manuscript through at least 3 drafts. Each time, you will add more layers. A novel is something you build with thousands of details for your settings, character development, story events, and so on.

A learning spirit.

You need the ability to learn from others. While Lana is kind in her feedback, as a published author, you will work with editors who are direct and to-the-point. A professional attitude and a desire to become better and better will take you a long way toward a long-standing relationship with a publisher who eagerly publishes your work again and again.

Diann Hunt was Lana's first student back in 2002. When she first contacted Lana, Diann was a mom with a dream and little writing experience. They spent hours on the phone going through the writing principles, the charts and worksheets before the course was even fully finished.

Diann went on to publish 25 novels and 3 novellas. Her book For Better or For Worse was adapted into a Hallmark movie, and she also won the ACFW's prestigious Book of the Year Award. Diann lost her long battle with ovarian cancer in 2013. Lana couldn't relaunch this course without honoring Diann's part in this process. What a wonderful friend and brilliant writer she was.
